New developments in the treatment of HIV/AIDS occur constantly. Through a Jackson EMC grant, AIDS Athens built a library of resources for the community. This library, housed at AIDS Athens, allows us the opportunity to keep apprised of these changes and share this vital information with the community, our clients, students and healthcare professionals. Anyone is welcome to come visit the library and borrow books. The library currently contains 200 titles but we are always looking for donations to expand our collection.
AIDS Athens operates an informational phone line five days a week to answer questions from the community regarding HIV/AIDS and prevention methods. The callers to this line seek information regarding prevention, services, testing or just general information regarding the disease. On average, our informational line fields 100 calls per week, this amounts to over 5,000 calls per year. Callers can reach the informational line at (706) 542-2437.
AIDS Athens works to raise awareness of and knowledge about HIV/AIDS and prevention methods in our community through programs, public awareness campaigns, presentations and community events. Staff members, volunteers and interns conduct these events throughout the community with local businesses, civic groups, healthcare professionals, educational groups and faith-based organizations.
